McCovey's Birth

We went right into the hospital and they asked me what my birth plan was and I laughed and said I want drug I don't want to feel pain. Being induced is a slow slow process. It consisted of sitting still for an hour and moving for an hour. I was progressing pretty fast at the beginning and they thought that I should probably have McCovey early in the morning. Finally, in the morning I decided to get my epidural but it didn't go very well because they hit a blood vessel and they had to do it twice. They also didn't have my epidural mixed yet so they put in lidocaine was supposed to last an hour. Well, McCovey went into distress and started to hide from the monitors so they would come in and move me about every 3 minutes. But because he was in distress I couldn't get on the medicine that speeds up labor. So they need to insert an internal monitor but first, they needed to break my water. It took some time for Dr. Cox to get there and then when he did it was about an hour since I got my epidural and when we broke my water I really felt it and then I went into distress.
I was on Oxygen for the rest of the morning. It was super stressful for a little bit of time then it was super slow and boring. They prepped me for a C-Section because the nurse and intern thought that I would need it but Dr. Cox was like no we are fine. So it was just more waiting. Then all of a sudden they were like hey are you ready to have a baby! I seriously didn't feel different. It was 1 and we started to push and I pushed for an hour and 20 minutes. He was face up so he just didn't want to come out. They had to vacuum him out a little bit and then out he popped! There were a few great things that happened that were super funny. The first one is Dave was planning to be what he called a "north" guy, to stand behind my head, but there were 8 other ladies in labor and he had to hold one of my legs. the next thing that was super funny is Dave had asked Lorin to bring him a sandwich well he got there right as I was pushing for the first time and Lorin walk right in saw what was happening and walked right out. Dave did a really good impression of it if you ever what to see it. I caused my mom a lot of anxiety because Dave told her we "might" be going in for a c-section and didn't tell her that I wasn't having one. She was imagining the worst so she came up to the hospital and stood outside of the door till I had him and she came in to take care of me.
When I first held him I just kept saying "Why is he so blue" and "Why is he was quite"
Here are the pictures Dave took:
I am much less freaked out here. But I was so exhausted.
McCovey and his Dad!
Look at all that hair! It is gross but there is so much!
Such a precious baby boy! It was amazing but super weird all the same. It was super amazing for me to watch Dave.
