So Proud of Her!

So Natalie a few weeks ago decided to fulfill her goal of running in a 10k race! I thought she is crazy! But she did it! One day after work she drop a hint that we should make funny signs! Natalie should have know what was coming (we love parades we are the loudest and funniest at parades) but I think we surprised her!
Kim working really hard on the posters!

This is my favorite poster!  The potatoes part is an inside joke about the ISU homecoming parade-Kim always needs a potato. Most of the runners thought it was funny! But one said he would throw potatoes at us!!!!

I love this! The snot looks funny!

Our only nice one!

We laughed so hard making these

Kim's writing is so nice!

Me doing what I do best! Not working :)

Freezing at the race! First stop!

Here she comes!

Running past us!

The Second stop!  People kept saying "haven't we seen you before"

Third stop! Alex loves the signs! Kim is the professional Clapper! We are such a loud group!

Kenna wanted to be in the pictures too!!

Her running friend (her friend from work!) thought we were super funny!
The fourth Stop! The last one!

No Signs just High  Fives!

The Volunteer told us to park in the wrong spot and we missed her cross the finish line!

She looks so awesome!

She worked hard and accomplished a difficult goal! Rock On Poody McPooderson! I think you are awesome!

Summer Reading 3

So as you can see from this Picture I read a lot of different books!
My Invisible Boyfriend is one of Kenna's books! It is about a girl in High School that makes up a boyfriend because all of her other friends have boyfriends! Super Corny but kind of cutie!
Slaves of Obsession is one of Melissa Roberts books! It is set during the Civil War but in England with lots of twist and turns!
Angus, Thongs, and Ful-Frontal Snogging this is a teen humor from England and super funny! I first saw the movie it is a favorite! I thought it was a crazy/funny/gross book!
Matched and Crossed! Loved these books! They are like Twilight (without the vampiers) meets Hunger Games (without all the Killing)!

I absolutely loved this book! It is a old book and I had never heard of it before just bought it I have a have a problem! It is set during the French Revolution but in England! I seriously just loved the story the Characters! I loved it! Did I mention that I loved it!

I had a goal to read 20 books this summer but didn't quite make it so I am going to count some of the picture books i read while helping Kimberly organize her teacher books!

These books are from one of my Favorite Authors, Patricia Polocca! I read Pink and Say to my students when covering the civil war! All of her books are stories about her life or her families!
Thank You, Mr. Falker is about the teacher that taugher to read and it may or may not have cried when I read it!
Thunder Cake is about the cake her Grandmother taught her to make when she was scared of lightning!
Chicken Sunday is story about her childhood and what would happen on Sundays!
The Keeping quilt is a story about her Great Grandma from Russia!

This book I am going to read to my students this year! It is great about how a slave mails himself to Freedom!

I read more books but this makes it 20! Yay! Now for the bring on School!

Discipline is not the enemy of enthusiasm!

So anyone who know me knows that I am geanerally a very happy person! This is usually a good trait but when you have this conversation with students it doesn't quite work:
Me: Ok so yesterday I was super ticked about your behavior- I expect more from you are juniors.
Students: Yesterday, you were ticked! I thought you were joking because you were smilling!
Me: I was not joking I was super ticked because you weren't listening! I am just a very happy person!
Students: I don't think we should be in trouble cause you smiled!

I know you are not really surprised but I have been stressed on how to disipline this year! I am going to be a 4th year teacher (I know that it is not a long time up I don't feel like I should be making begining mistakes). I also fell more mature (hahaha cause I am going to be 27 and I think that gives me more crediablinty with the student beging older! But clearly I have no crediablity with spelling!) Back on topic- I feel like I should be better so I have been working on it! I know that I have been stressed because I have been having nightmares all summer! One is when half of my class gets up and leaves- just because they can. I also have dreams that I am totally unprepared for class! I have absolutly nothing to talk about!

So I have working on stuff and setting goals for myself! A about a week ago Kimberly and I were watching a teaching movie (I just love them I think I am always go to start August off with one) it is called Lean of Me it has Morgan Freeman in it and it is about how his character takes back the school from the gangs and drug attics and with a lot of work they pass the state exams! He says this line in the movie "Discipline is not the enemy of enthusiasm!" This line hit me really hard! I am very enthusasic person and it has been hard balancing this with discipline! So for this next school year this is going to be my theme!
PS if you are wondering why I wrote this it is because if I tell people then I am more likely to follow through :)

My 6th grade self!

Not many people would are able to find their 6th grade journal and find the craziness that I found in mine! Kenna and my mom were cleaning out the green room downstairs and they found this!
It says "Melissa's Stuff"
"Mike don't touch"
"That goes for everyone"
"Get our hands off"
"Don't think about it"
Oh gravy if you think reading my  blog know is hard, you haven't seen nothing yet!
Natalie was reading it and was super stumped by this word "bazisam" translation Baptism! I was super good at spelling then too!
Here are favorite lines : "Kristy furts with all the boys excepeonly John. John and Kristy love each other it just the years all most over pluse Kristy to shy." (What makes this super funny is that Kristy and I now work together at Highland. So I called her and told her what I though of her in 6th grade!)
"I haded to baby sit Kenna and Kyle, Kenna was horable. I could not even hear my self think. i ever heard half the words she was saying. I chrid asking her if Heavenly Father would like her to say thouse words" (I just think this is so funny)
This journal 2-12-97 to 3-12-97 I was writing for my "gods plite and action award"
